Delaware Fire Departments | the Blades Volunteer Fire Company

While I haven't been to the fire station in Blades yet, I was able to take these pictures of their older Hahn International engine at a local event. In August of 2016 the Georgetown Historical Society hosted an antique fire apparatus show on the grounds of the Marvel Carriage Museum. Located just outside Georgetown in southern Delaware, this museum represents a lifetime of collecting by a single man, Nutter D. Marvel. Many of the buildings, carriages and items on display came from various locations throughout Sussex County, Delaware and following his passing the facility became home to the Georgetown Historical Society. In addition to being a fascinating visit and place for tours, the grounds offer wonderful opportunites for activities such as the fire truck show.

Fire Departments of Delmarva | the Crisfield Volunteer Fire Company

The Crisfield Volunteer Fire Company is located in Somerset County, just a short distance from the downtown area and docks at the edge of the Chesapeake Bay. While I've had the chance to see a few of their vehicles here and there, and to stop recently for the pictures of the firehouse itself, I haven't been inside or seen the rest of the apparatus.

Images by Altered Art | Outstanding Dreams Alpaca Farm in Preston, Maryland

On a beautiful afternoon in November, as the Delmarva Peninsula was fading into soft shades of golden leaves and orange colors, I had the chance to visit and tour a nearby farm. I wasn't sure what to expect, how interactive the alpacas might be (or might not be?), and I didn't know how the entire concept of raising animals would seem to me. Did the owners care about them, where did concern for the well-being and happiness of these creatures rank and would I feel comfortable seeing how they lived and existed? After all, while we can and do label many things in life as "it's a business", what did that really translate into for the alpacas themselves? I headed north-west from Fenwick Island, up through Delaware via Route 404 and crossed into Maryland. The drive is a peaceful one, winding through farms and open country fields, and once I left 404 it was another five miles down a quiet two-lane road. I pulled up at the foot of the driveway and paused to take a few pictures of the scenic autumn landscape.

Altered Art "spotlight on local" | Sunset Cycles of West Ocean City, MD

I recently took some photographs of a nearby motorcycle shop as a friend dropped their bike off for service. Since I was pleased with a few of the pictures - and as they have a friendly shop mascot - I'm sharing their info and some of the images here. Sunset Cycles was opened in 2014 and is located in just outside of Maryland's favorite beach town of Ocean City.

Architecture and Buildings of Delmarva | Deer's Head in Salisbury, MD

This stately old hospital building is located in Salisbury (Wicomico County). Originally constructed during the 1950s it has now been renovated and is used as a nursing home and other medical departments. Unfortunately I have yet to run across anyone who has any real information on it's history and uses through the years.

"Deer's Head Hospital was established in 1950 with Robert J. Gore, M.D., as Chief Physician and had facilities for 284 patients." Source
